As the colder months are coming in thick and fast now, it’s a really great opportunity to examine ways in which we can make the interior switch to winter as well. It’s critical that our interiors reflect the weather and time of year so it feels right.

After all, we’re now spending even more time at home so why not make the effort in taking care of your home?

Let’s explore some of the ways you can make the interior switch to winter…

Soft Furnishings

One of the key ways to making the interior switch to winter is looking at some heavier and thicker soft furnishings.

For example, your sofa cushions might be worth changing for something like a thicker wool material, rather than perhaps a thin cotton or linen. For heavier options, think about the rugs and whether you have any rugs within your home. If you lack rugs, then why not treat yourself to a new one? It can go great in the living space if you have wooden flooring or in your bedroom.

Experiment with different textures, and don’t be afraid of layering, especially as it’s going to add more warmth to your home. Throws are a great feature to have in your living space and bedroom for the wintertime as it can provide you with the perfect blanket for movie night or an extra layer on top of your bedding for the evening.

Consider Redecorating

In winter, it’s all about taking advantage of the darker colours, and if you’re looking to transform your interior with dark colours, then it’s worth considering updating your walls with new paint or adding wallpaper to add some texture.

Wallpapering is a bit more traditional in terms of its application but the patterns, colours and textures available these days are far from traditional! Updating your walls with a new paint colour is a great alternative if you don’t fancy wallpapering and is definitely worth giving a go if you want a cost effective and efficient way of adding a new colour to a wall.

Lighting is Key

When it comes to creating different moods within rooms, it’s all about the lighting.

It might be worth thinking about which lighting fixtures you could change in order to help add more of a winter atmosphere to the space. It could be picking out different lamp shades or even changing the colours of the light themselves.

Generally speaking (and without going into too much detail about effective lighting) whiter and brighter light is key for high traffic areas like corridors, hallways, entrances, kitchens and bathrooms. However when it comes to living spaces and bedrooms, a warmer and softer light works wonders for dark wintery evenings. Always remember to have a main central light fitting to fully illuminate the space for cleaning etc.

There are lots of options out there to choose from, so take a look at what’s available.

The Power of Plants

Nature is a great thing to have in the home because not only does it bring the outdoors in, but it can add a wash of colour to an otherwise neutrally decorated room. Think about adding in some wintery features in the form of plants or even faux flowers if necessary. There are in some available that are frosted to look as if they’ve been outside in the snow!

If you’re looking to make the interior switch to winter, then now is the best time to do it. Use these tips to make sure your home is looking its best for the winter weather.
