There’s never a bad time to find extra ways to save money… Especially as we’re nearing the end of another year, and perhaps the most financially strenuous time for some, it’s important to take some time to reflect on your goals and ambitions.
Whether that is topping up your savings account or avoiding paying top price for our purchases, there are many ways of going about improving your personal cash flow. A number of them are as simple as spending some time online and researching what options best suit you.
So, let’s take a look at some of the ways you can avoid spending too much and improve how much you can keep back this month.
Shopping
————
It’s important to mention that whilst you’re making more of a conscious effort to save more, it doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to continue shopping! What it does mean is that you should be shopping smarter, and knowing how to do that is half the battle.
First of all, if there is something you know you want to buy – don’t just get it straight away. Shop around for different prices and offers. You might find that there are places that are having special sales and offering substantial discounts. Knowing that you have bought something for less than you first saw it for can actually make that purchase mean more.
Whilst you’re spending this time looking for the best discounts / prices for the item, you may find that you stop thinking about it therefore meaning that perhaps you don’t want or need it as much as you first thought!
Alternatively to spending your cash, why not look into how to get free gift cards? You will be surprised to find out how easy it is to build up store cards without spending anything, which is a pretty good way of saving money. Sometimes this means spending some time doing a survey or filling out a form, but in the long run, it will make sure you are still able to shop while keeping your money in your bank.
Saving
————
If you’re looking into the future and you need to save (for whatever reason), there are plenty of ways for you to go about it. Rather than be a daunting, stressful experience that leaves you feeling restricted, you can make the most of your money whilst still enjoying life.
For starters, you should look at where you are spending more than you need to. For example, are you paying for far more data on your phone than what you use? Or perhaps you have monthly subscription costs to websites that you no longer need or visit? We all sign up to these websites in good faith, but we won’t always want them and cutting unnecessary expenditure loose will help you save money without losing the things you enjoy.
The best recommendation for saving money is creating a budget for yourself and really track where your money is going every month. After one month of tracking (you could do this for last month for example), you will quickly see where the excess is, and then be able to cut it out so you have more money for yourself.
Saving is more about planning your finances better rather than removing the things you want to spend it on.

The important thing to remember in all of this is that you’re working hard for your money! You can keep some back whilst also making the most of everything you enjoy in the process.
